Microsoft JET
Microsoft JET is a flat file database system. Originally developed as the primary database engine for Microsoft Access, it is also widely used by many other applications as a way of storing data. Applications that use JET databases do not require the use of the Microsoft Access application, as the JET drivers are included with all versions of Microsoft Windows. IIS web server applications can use JET databases for small scale sites when a large number of concurrent users are not expected on the site. For sites with a larger concurrent user load, or when the best performance or security is desired, it is recommended to move up to a Microsoft SQL Server database. A JET database is normally a single flat file with the MDB extension.
